Highlights of Spud and the Minting Challenge

I saw a lot of people confused by the recent minting challenge, so I decided to pick out some highlights from the recent Upland Medium article. All points are from the Medium article unless otherwise noted.

Note: We still don't know all of the details. I'll update as more is released.

Spud

    • Property development will be driven by Spark (which is a token). However, the sandbox (which will allow players to play with the property development interface) will use a temporary resource we’re calling “Spud”.
    • During the sandbox competitions, Spud will be used to build properties. All players of Uplander status and above will receive Spud when it is distributed. Spud will have no direct utility beyond these sandbox competitions.
Neighborhood Champion

    • One way that players will be able to gain access to more Spud is by becoming a “Neighborhood Champion”.
    • Neighborhood Champions will get a 2x Spud bonus, and they will also be able to allocate an amount of bonus Spud to other members of their team.
    • Neighborhood Champion status will come into play when we hold neighborhood sandbox competitions.
    • The winning neighborhood(s) will receive a prize that will boost that neighborhood’s development rating (read more about neighborhood development rating in our roadmap to property development).
    • While we are not yet announcing the criteria that will determine which neighborhoods are selected (and who their Neighborhood Champions will be), there is one way that you can ensure you become Neighborhood champion this weekend: Winning one of 3 neighborhood minting challenges.
Minting Challenge
The three neighborhoods are Pacific Heights, Outer Sunset, and Mission Dolores

    • These 3 neighborhood minting challenges will measure the number of newly minted properties in each of 3 neighborhoods.

Two tiers (My Summary):

    • Executive and Director- Neighborhood Champion status, 2x Spud boost, Neighborhood Champion Badge, and an UPX prize.
    • Pros, Uplanders, and Visitors- Junior Champion Status, 1.5x Spud boost, smaller UPX prize.

Summary of the Challenge: There will be three neighborhoods in which players will mint properties. The number of properties minted by each player will be counted and the players with the most mintings in those neighborhoods will win the prizes.

Updates on the minting challenges:

Challenge boards track each individual neighborhood, with winners winning in one specific neighborhood.

Neighborhood Champion status can be used for any neighborhood.

Sandbox competitions are coming next month to SF.

Multiple champions can support the same neighborhood, more info about the Sandbox challenges to come.
